Gustavo Gonzalez, P.E. was born in San Antonio, Texas, and grew up on the city’s northwest side. He attended Thomas Jefferson High School before enrolling at Texas A&M University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. While at Texas A&M, he was a member of the Corps of Cadets and accepted a commission in the United States Army.
Upon graduation, Gustavo was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. His first assignment was with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District, where he served as a Project Officer in the Toutle River Valley following the eruption of Mount St. Helens. Stationed at a satellite office, he oversaw major reconstruction efforts, including the construction of a roller-compacted concrete spillway.
After completing his two-year assignment, he was transferred to Fort Jackson, South Carolina, where he served as a Platoon Leader in an D company, 401 Engineer Battalion. Following his active-duty service, Gustavo transitioned to the private sector to pursue a career in civil engineering.
After gaining experience with several small engineering firms, Gustavo joined the San Antonio Water System (SAWS), where he advanced through the organization and ultimately served as Vice President of Production and Distribution. During his civilian career, he was recalled to active duty and completed one tour in Bosnia -Herzegovina and another in Afghanistan, where he was assigned to THE 321ST Civil Affairs Brigade.
Upon returning from deployment, Gustavo was asked to manage the Corpus Christi water system with over 800 employees during a critical period following a bacterial contamination event. The water system consists of Lake Corpus Christi, Choke canyon, and a 150 mile pipeline from the Colorado River that all feed into a 160 MGD water treatment plant. His leadership during this time led to his promotion as Assistant City Manager for the City of Corpus Christi.
In 2017, Gustavo returned to San Antonio with the acquisition of GE Reaves Engineering. The firm subsequently reverted to its original name, GGE Consulting Engineers, Inc. Since that time the firm has had more than 17 employees providing services in structural and civil engineering, construction management.
